Painful breast feeding
I think it’s important to let new and expectant mothers know that breast feeding can be painful sometimes. For example, if you are unfortunate enough to get small sores or cracks around the nipples, or if you are still breast feeding when your baby has teeth. You often hear nothing but the good stories which give the impression that breast feeding is a comfortable and enjoyable experience right from the start. And admittedly, most of the time I was breast feeding it was a pleasant experience, but once in a while it did hurt, which came as a bit of a surprise to me. If perhaps I had known that it may not be quite so comfortable to breast feed in such periods, I might have been able to avoid the feeling of being not up to it.

Forget the idea of a perfect home
Successful breast feeding for me means being relaxed and rested. I found that breast feeding only began to go well when I decided to stop baking, cleaning and being the perfect housewife. My milk production really got going when I declined to see any more visitors who I felt obliged to see and entertain since I was home on maternity leave.
